Increased Risk of Flooding
A multi-agency analysis of the burned area is being conducted. This analysis is focusing on evaluating the risk for flash floods, mudflows and debris flows. Once complete, the assessment will be provided on this site so you can familiarize yourself with the potential hazards associated with the burned area.
Actions
Multiple, federal, state, and local agencies are taking action to protect our watershed and prevent flooding, this includes:
-
In urban areas, the City of Ventura, Ojai, Santa Paula and County are cleaning and checking storm drains, and assessing the need to install straw wattles and gravel bags to prevent debris from entering storm drains.
-
In rural areas, the County is assessing the need to install debris-capture devices in culverts and ditches along rural roadways.
-
The US Forest Service, CAL FIRE, Cities, and the County teams are developing plans to clear fire debris from streams and storm water channels to reduce flood risks.
